MEPIS / SimplyMEPIS

MEPIS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu Linux. MEPIS was independently developed by Warren Woodfords (Morgantown, West Virginia, USA) from November 2002 onwards, as he was dissatisfied with the various Linux distributions. Woodford's goal is to develop a distribution that does what the user wants. Linux distributions such as SuSE, Red Hat or Mandriva are in his opinion too difficult for the simple user to understand and use without IT knowledge.
MEPIS stands for Managerial, Educational and Personal Information Systems. It is also said to be named after Memphis, Tennessee, USA, the inhabitants pronounce their city similar to Mepis.
Mepis Linux is an easy-to-install and configurable (user friendly) desktop system for home users. The distribution is suitable for both corporate and private use. It contains tools such as live, installation and recovery CDs. Mepis offers the possibility to try out the system as a live CD without installation and to install it later on the hard disk.
